Lumai Wins Falling Walls “Science Breakthrough of the Year 2025”

We are delighted that Lumai has been awarded the Falling Walls Award for Science Breakthrough of the Year 2025.

Selected from more than 400 applicants worldwide, this honour recognizes the transformative potential of Lumai’s technology and the groundbreaking work our team has undertaken to push the boundaries of what’s possible in AI.

The Falling Walls Foundation highlights innovations that have the power to create real, global impact. The award reinforces our belief that the next generation of AI hardware will rely on deep advances in physics-informed computation, and we are proud that Lumai is helping define that future.

Each year, the Falling Walls Foundation brings together leading scientists, innovators, and decision makers in Berlin to explore the question: “Which are the next walls to fall?”.  The program is recognized internationally for its rigor, with hundreds of submissions evaluated by panels of experts across multiple disciplines.

Lumai’s CTO, Dr. James Spall, represented the team in Berlin, sharing how Lumai’s optical computing can unlock orders-of-magnitude improvements in AI performance and energy efficiency. His presentation highlighted the foundations behind our architecture and the practical path toward a new class of ultra-efficient AI systems.

As we continue building toward this future where AI will be processed at a fraction of the power compared to today’s devices, we are inspired by the broader Falling Walls mission – one that celebrates progress and scientific innovations that move the world forward.
