Lumai Named Finalist for Falling Walls Venture 2025
We are delighted to announce that Lumai has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Falling Walls Venture competition 2025.
From over 200 applications spanning 37 countries, Lumai has been chosen among the Top 25 science-based startups worldwide. This recognition places us alongside some of the world’s most promising innovators tackling global challenges across biotechnology, clean energy, agriculture, medtech, quantum technologies, and beyond.
At Lumai, we are developing extremely fast, energy-efficient optical-based AI accelerator hardware that enables AI models to run at scale with dramatically reduced cost and energy use.
As AI continues to transform industries and society, the need for ever more compute performance which is both sustainable and scalable infrastructure is more pressing than ever.

Artificial intelligence is scaling at an extraordinary pace but the silicon chips powering it are reaching their limits. Each new generation of GPUs brings more energy use, more cost, and more complexity. If this continues, AI progress risks slowing under the weight of unsustainable infrastructure.
At Lumai, we are pioneering a new foundation for AI: optical compute. By harnessing the power of light instead of electrons, our processors will deliver 50x performance with 90% less energy. A single Lumai processor can replace tens of GPUs – at gigawatt scale, the energy saved could power an entire city.
The Falling Walls Science Summit, held annually in Berlin from 6-9 November, commemorates the fall of the Berlin Wall by spotlighting breakthroughs that have the potential to tear down barriers in science and society. As part of the program, Lumai will present on stage in the Science Breakthrough of the Year (Start-up Category).
